One Week Itinerary for Cozumel, Mexico
Crystal blue waters and warm white sands in a true tropical paradise can be found on a tiny island right outside of Cancun. Welcome to Cozumel!
Cozumel is one of my favorite places to visit in Mexico! I have been there twice now and definitely know it's a destination I can't wait to get back to! There is so much to do and see on this tiny island. It definitely has something for every type of traveler. Adventure seeker? Foodie? Relaxing Vacay Mode? Instagram Pictures? You definitely won't get bored here!
What to Expect?
Language: Spanish is the official language of Cozumel. However, you'll find many of the locals will understand and speak English as well! You'll also find a few people capable of speaking Mayan.
Currency: The currency in Cozumel is Pesos. 1 USD is equivalent to about 19.89 Pesos. It's good to keep in mind though, that the locals will often taken US dollars for tips and tours.
Credit Cards & ATMs: All major credit cards, such as Visa and Mastercard, are accepted in the Cozumel. To be safe, keep some cash on hand for emergencies. I carried both US dollars and Pesos throughout my time at Cozumel. If you need to get some money, you will find ATMs in the main cities and at the airports. In Town, there is grocery store that has several types of ATMs making it easy to pull out cash!
Plugs: The plugs in Cozumel are type A and B. If you're coming from the U.S. its the same as home! No need to bring your universal adapter for this trip!
Safety: Cozumel is considered to be one of the safer cities in Mexico. Petty crime does exist though so be cautious with your belongings and avoid walking alone in the evening.

Packing List
How to get to Cozumel?
Cozumel is a small island, but there are direct flights into Cozumel. They are less frequent and are sometimes more expensive! So if you don't find a direct flight into Cozumel don't worry my friend, you just need to fly to the mainland and land in Cancun. Once in Cancun, you can catch a ferry to Cozumel. It's about 45 minutes and the tickets are fairly inexpensive ($455 MXN round trip). First head over to Winjet's website! You'll have the option to either purchase a one-way or round trip ticket. Type in your information and you're all set!
Day One
You've Made it and now it's time to relax! You're vacation has begun!
Unpack! Get cleaned up and enjoy a nice dinner at your hotel!
If you stay at Hotel B Unique, I suggest the tacos!
Day Two - Chakannaab Archeological Site
Enjoy a private cabana for the day!
Website: https://thecabanabeach.com
The Cabana Beach is about 15 minutes away from the main downtown area. Cabana's start at $50.00 USD and includes a fruit platter, snorkel gear and towels. You. can enjoy a day in the sun with delicious drinks and food! Don't forget your underwater camera because this area is amazing to snorkel. If you're brave enough you can swim out a little farther to catch a glimpse of the underwater statue right off shore!
Day Three - Take Jeep Tour to Punta Sur
Explore the island in an adventurous way! Hop on a jeep tour and drive 30 minutes down the coast of the island. You'll get to explore new viewpoints and see the island in a whole new way!
Website: https://www.explora-tours.com
Cost: $105-115 USD
Once you arrive at Punta Sur Eco Park, Stop at the Lighthouse and climb stairs! Yes I know the stairs are a lot, but the views are truly breathtaking! You can see the whole Island from up there!
After that head down the dirt path to a beach club where you can grab lunch and enjoy the rest of your day out in the beautiful Mexican sun! Check out Anemona De Mar Cozumel Beach Club!

Day Four - Pool Day
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and enjoy a day of relaxation at your hotel!
Whether that's a treatment at the spa or a few margaritas by the pool, enjoy a day of absolutely nothing in one of the most beautiful places in the world!
After a long day in the sun, head into town for dinner and to explore all the downtown shops! Find the perfect souvenir for you and your loved ones back home! I personally choose a t-shirt and the first time I ever went to Cozumel I got a Christmas ornament. Whatever you choose to get its always good to give back to the communities in the area you are traveling by buying a little something.
Day Five - Sail the Ocean
Charter a boat and enjoy a day at sea!
This gives you the opportunity to explore the islands rich ocean life. One of the highlights of my trip was viewing bright red starfish while snorkeling! Hidden statues are also found around some of the most popular snorkel spots around the Yucatán Peninsula's water.

Isla de Pasion is a small island off the North Coast of Cozumel! It's known for feeling like your own private island with sandy white beaches and beautiful turquoise water. To get there, you need to take a taxi or a rental car 30 minutes North of the main town in Cozumel to Bahia Ciega Bay! The drive is quite bumpy since it's in the protected area of the island. Once you arrive at the bay you will find free parking! Then hop on a small ferry for a 5-10 minute boat ride to the island!
There are also tours that will set up this whole process for you! Below, you can find the link to a 5 hour tour that provides drinks, food and transportation to the island. It's a total of 5 hours! That gives you plenty of time to visit this gorgeous island.
